Series of online events from November 9th to November 27th, 2021
Numerous partnerships between groups from Germany and Tanzania connect people from multifaceted realities. We all know how important regular meetings and exchanges are and how they can turn into deep friendships and sustainable partnerships. A lot of heart and soul goes into this partnership work and has already moved a lot. It supports mutual understanding and sensitizes for global connections.
What has grown over several decades should remain future-oriented. How can we make our work intergenerational both relevant and meaningful for all of us?
This requires space for an honest and critical reflection of the status quo.
In four consecutive events we want to learn with and from each other based on our own experiences within the partnership work. We will pick up the topic from three different perspectives: The historical genesis, current debates as well as images of partnership work that influence our way of thinking, acting and communication. E. g. in case of disappointed expectations, these experiences may reinforce stereotypes. We want to reflect on historically grown unequal conditions in Germany and Tanzania and the associated patterns of power and dependency. We ask ourselves which role partnerships play in this framework today and how we see their future role.
Besides experienced partnership activists, we explicitly invite (former) volunteers, students, and people who have no experiences yet in partnership work.

9th November 2021 / 6 to 7.30 p.m.-19.30: Reading by Emmanuel Kileo from his book „Grüß Gott aus Afrika“, followed by a moderated discussion about „critical whiteness“ in partnership work (German with translation to English)
16th November 2021 / 6 to 7.30 p.m.: Julia Seibert: Historical review on German-Tanzanian partnerships; followed by a moderated discussion (German with translation to English)
26th November / 6 to 7.30 p.m.: Christoph Pinkert: Auf dem Weg zu einem neuen Verständnis in der Partnerschaftsarbeit: Durch Selbstreflexion mit- und voneinander lernen. Workshop Teil 1: Einstieg und Überblick (German only, no translation available)
27th November: 9.20 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Christoph Pinkert: Auf dem Weg zu einem neuen Verständnis in der Partnerschaftsarbeit: Durch Selbstreflexion mit- und voneinander lernen. Workshop Teil 2: Vertiefung und Ausblick (German only, no translation available)
