Who we are

We are a Forum for Communication – Information – Networking – Solidarity – Lobby.

Tanzania-Network.de e.V. was founded in 2000 through the initiative of representatives – both Tanzanian and German – of groups and organisations from politics, society and churches, which have long-established contacts with Tanzania.

In the Federal Republic of Germany there are between 800 and 1000 initiatives with connections to Tanzania: cities, schools, parishes, companies, universities and mission societies. These diverse groups offer a great potential. Many activities, however, are uncoordinated and thus inefficient, as often the same work is done simultaneously by different groups that do not know one another. Consequently, the representation of interests for Tanzania and its people could often be more effective.

Therefore, we aim for an efficient exchange of information and experience, the promotion of regional networking in Germany and Tanzania, the co-ordination of development policy, lobby and advocacy work, the qualified co-operation between groups and institutions and the provision of information through different media and working materials.

With our magazine HABARI and by organizing workshops and seminars, we try to achieve these goals.

Our magazine HABARI has been published on a quarterly basis since 1999. Its purpose is to bring together those interested in Tanzania and it contains articles and reports. Apart from reports on current partnership affairs each issue deals with a main, current topic.

Two times a year we organise seminars and workshops. Our main topics over the last years have been inter alia: Globalisation/Privatisation, HIV/Aids, Health, Poverty alleviation, Christian-Muslim dialogue, Economy, Trade.

Additionally, we provide services and information with our website www.tanzania-network.de. It contains information on Tanzania and provides several tools for networking in our groups and others who are interested in Tanzania. Especially our interactive offers like the calendar, the pool of addresses and experts or the visitors’ schedule subsist on the participation and co-operation of a number of people.
