Tansania drei Monate nach den Wahlen
Am 28.10.2020 fanden in Tansania die Wahlen statt, bei der neben dem Präsidenten auch die Abgeordneten der Nationalversammlung sowie die District Councillors gewählt wurden. Offiziellen Angaben zufolge wurde Präsident Magufuli mit 84% bestätigt, und auch in der Nationalversammlung gingen 258 der 264 Sitze an die regierende CCM.
Während die CCM die Ergebnisse als fulminanten Wahlsieg wertet und den politischen Kurs Magufulis bestätigt sieht, spricht die Opposition von Wahlbetrug und berichtet von Unregelmäßigkeiten, Übergriffen und Gewalt, insbesondere auch auf den teilautonomen Inseln Sansibar und Pemba.
Anfang Dezember entschied sich die ACT Wazalendo auf Sansibar der Regierung der nationalen Einheit (GNU) beizutreten. Während die einen diesen Schritt als Verrat an der Opposition sehen, verknüpfen andere mit ihm die Hoffnung auf Versöhnung und Heilung im politisch angespannten Verhältnis zwischen den politischen Kräften auf Sansibar.

Tanzania’s General Elections: Three Months on
General elections were held in Tanzania on 28 October 2020 to elect the President, the National Assembly and the District Councillors. According to official figures, President Magufuli was confirmed with 84% of the votes and the ruling CCM won 258 out of 264 seats in the National Assembly. While the CCM speaks of a great electoral victory and sees Magufuli's political course confirmed, the opposition reports on electoral fraud, irregularities and violence especially in the semi-autonomous state of Zanzibar. In early December, the opposition ACT Wazalendo finally agreed to join Zanzibar’s Government of National Unity (GNU). While for some members of the opposition this seemed like a betrayal, others perceive it as hope for reconciliation and healing in the politically tense relationship between the political powers in Zanzibar. Where does Tanzania stand 3 months after general elections and what are the prospects for the upcoming years?
